The rules that apply to ROMKADE Manager, ROMKADE Cloud and ROMKADE accounts.

Version française (reference version) · Versión en español

Effective date: 22 October 2026.

1. Purpose and acceptance

These general terms of use (the “Terms”) set out the rules for accessing and using the software and online services published by ROMKADE, a publisher of software for retro handheld game consoles. They form the contract between ROMKADE and any person who uses these services.

Creating a ROMKADE account requires you to expressly accept the Terms, by ticking the box provided for this purpose. Using ROMKADE Manager also constitutes acceptance of the Terms as far as ROMKADE Manager is concerned. If you do not accept the Terms, you must not use the services.

The publisher's identity is given in the legal notice.

2. Definitions

  • ROMKADE: the publisher of the services, identified in the legal notice.
  • User or you: any natural person who uses the services.
  • Account: the personal space created with an email address and a password, which gives access to the online services.
  • ROMKADE Manager: the application installed on your computer, which manages your console's library and controls the console over the network (SSH, Wi-Fi).
  • ROMKADE Cloud: the online service available at https://mcp.romkade.com, an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that connects your console to artificial intelligence assistants.
  • Console agent: the small program installed on your console, which connects it to ROMKADE Cloud.
  • Assistant: a third-party artificial intelligence service, for example ChatGPT (OpenAI) or Claude (Anthropic), that you choose to connect to ROMKADE Cloud.
  • Services: ROMKADE Manager, ROMKADE Cloud, the console agent, the account and the romkade.com website, taken together.
  • Files: the games, ROMs, saves, screenshots and other files on your console or your computer.

3. Access to the services and ROMKADE account

3.1 Access conditions

The services are intended for persons aged 15 and over. A person under 15 may only use them with the authorization of the holder or holders of parental authority, who then accept the Terms on their behalf.

Access to the services requires a computer, a compatible console and an Internet connection, the costs of which remain your responsibility.

3.2 Creating the account

A ROMKADE account is required to use the online services. It is created on the romkade.com/authentification page with a valid email address and a password. A code sent by email is used to confirm the address. You undertake to provide an address that belongs to you and to keep it up to date. An account is personal: it may not be shared or transferred.

3.3 Account security

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for the actions carried out from your account. Choose a strong password that you do not use anywhere else. If you suspect unauthorized use of your account, change your password immediately and notify ROMKADE at the address given in article 14.

3.4 Two-factor authentication

You can turn on two-factor authentication, which asks for a one-time code in addition to your password each time you sign in. It is strongly recommended, especially if you connect an assistant to your console. Keep your recovery methods: ROMKADE may be unable to restore access to a protected account whose second factor you have lost.

3.5 Deleting the account

You can request the deletion of your account at any time, from your account area when this feature is offered, or by writing to the address given in article 14. The consequences of deletion are described in article 11.

4. Description of the services

4.1 ROMKADE Manager

ROMKADE Manager is an application installed and run on your own computer. It connects to your console over your local network to organize your library, transfer files, and manage saves, screenshots and settings. The catalog, the copies of saves and the settings stay on your computer.

4.2 ROMKADE Cloud and connecting assistants

ROMKADE Cloud allows an assistant to check the state of your console and to carry out management operations on it at your request. You alone decide whether to connect an assistant, by authorizing access from your ROMKADE account; you can withdraw this authorization at any time.

Assistants are third-party services provided by their publishers (notably OpenAI for ChatGPT and Anthropic for Claude). Their use is subject to their own terms and privacy policies, which you accept with them. ROMKADE controls neither their answers nor how they work. The information that ROMKADE Cloud passes to an assistant you have connected is processed by that assistant's publisher.

ROMKADE Cloud only keeps metadata: file names and sizes, console model, firmware version and technical information needed for the service to work. It never stores the content of your games.

4.3 Console agent

The console agent is installed on your console to connect it to ROMKADE Cloud. It sends the metadata described above and carries out the operations requested through ROMKADE Cloud. Some of these operations can modify or delete files on your console: check the actions you ask an assistant to perform before confirming them. You can uninstall the agent at any time.

5. Acceptable use

ROMKADE does not provide, sell or distribute any game or ROM. The services only manage files you already own. You alone are responsible for the files you place on your console or your computer, for where they come from, and for the lawfulness of possessing and using them under the law that applies to you, in particular copyright law.

You undertake not to:

  • use the services to obtain, reproduce, share or distribute protected works without the authorization of their rights holders;
  • access or attempt to access, without authorization, other users' accounts or the servers or systems of ROMKADE or its service providers;
  • disrupt the operation of the services, in particular through abusive automated requests, the introduction of malicious code or the circumvention of security measures;
  • decompile, disassemble or modify the software, except where expressly permitted by law;
  • resell or rent the services, or make them available to third parties;
  • use the services in breach of applicable laws and regulations.

6. Third-party content and intellectual property

6.1 ROMKADE software

ROMKADE Manager, ROMKADE Cloud, the console agent, the romkade.com website, the ROMKADE brand and its logos are the property of ROMKADE and are protected by intellectual property law. The software is distributed under a proprietary license: © 2026 ROMKADE, all rights reserved.

For as long as you use the services, ROMKADE grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to install and use the official versions of the software for strictly personal and non-commercial use. Any other use requires ROMKADE's prior written consent.

6.2 Third-party data and content

ROMKADE Manager displays information from third-party sources, cited in the application and in the credits: box art from libretro-thumbnails (images © their respective publishers), cheat codes from libretro-database (CC BY-SA 4.0 license), game information from libretro-database and OpenVGDB (MIT license). This content remains subject to its respective licenses. ROMKADE guarantees neither its accuracy nor its completeness.

6.3 Third-party trademarks

The names Anbernic, RetroArch, ChatGPT, Claude, as well as the names of the consoles, firmwares and games mentioned, are trademarks belonging to their respective owners. They are mentioned only to indicate the compatibility or interoperability of the services. ROMKADE is not affiliated with these owners, nor endorsed or sponsored by them.

7. Personal data

ROMKADE processes the personal data needed to provide the services (in particular your email address and your console's metadata) in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act (loi Informatique et Libertés). The purposes, retention periods, service providers involved and your rights (access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction, portability, complaint to the CNIL) are detailed in the privacy policy.

8. Availability and changes to the services

The services are under development and offered at prototype stage. ROMKADE strives to make them accessible and functional, without guaranteeing continuous availability or the absence of errors. Access may be suspended, in particular for maintenance, updates, security reasons or if a service provider is unavailable.

ROMKADE may change the services and add, modify or remove features. Compatibility with a given console, firmware or assistant is not guaranteed over time, as these products change independently of ROMKADE. If an online service is permanently discontinued, ROMKADE will inform you by email within a reasonable time.

9. Liability

9.1 Your files and your saves

The services act on files and settings of your console and your computer. A handling error, a power or network outage, a faulty memory card or a firmware update can lead to data loss or corruption. It is up to you to keep regular backups of your files, your game saves and your memory card, especially before any transfer, any update or any operation requested from an assistant.

9.2 Limitations of liability

To the extent permitted by law, ROMKADE is not liable for:

  • data loss or damage resulting from use that does not comply with the Terms or the documentation, or from the lack of a backup;
  • the files you possess or use, and their lawfulness;
  • the operation, answers or actions of the assistants and other third-party services you choose to connect;
  • malfunctions of your hardware, your console, its firmware, your network or your Internet connection;
  • the interruptions or unavailability described in article 8.

Nothing in the Terms limits or excludes ROMKADE's liability in the event of gross negligence or intentional misconduct, nor the rights you hold under the mandatory provisions of the French Consumer Code (Code de la consommation), in particular the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and services where it applies.

9.3 Your responsibility

You are responsible for the use you make of the services and for the consequences of any breach of the Terms.

10. Price

The services are currently provided free of charge. ROMKADE may in the future offer paid plans or features. You will not be asked to pay any amount without clear prior information on the price and conditions of the offer, nor without your express consent. Paid features will be subject to separate terms of sale.

11. Term, account deletion and termination

The Terms apply for as long as you use the services. You can stop using them at any time, uninstall ROMKADE Manager and the console agent, and request the deletion of your account. Deleting the account ends access to ROMKADE Cloud, revokes the authorizations given to assistants and erases the associated data, under the conditions and within the time limits set out in the privacy policy. It does not affect the files on your console or your computer.

In the event of a serious breach of the Terms, in particular of article 5, or of a threat to the security of the services, ROMKADE may suspend or delete your account. Except in an emergency or where required by law, ROMKADE will inform you beforehand by email, stating the reason, and will allow you to submit your observations.

12. Changes to the terms

ROMKADE may change the Terms, in particular to reflect changes to the services or to regulations. The effective date is shown at the top of the document. In the event of a significant change, you will be informed by email or when you sign in, before it takes effect. If you refuse the new Terms, you can stop using the services and delete your account; otherwise, continuing to use the services constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law and disputes

The Terms are governed by French law. If you live in another country of the European Union, you keep the benefit of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.

If a problem arises, first contact ROMKADE at the address given in article 14 to seek an amicable solution. If your written complaint is not resolved, you can refer the matter free of charge to a consumer mediator, in accordance with articles L611-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code: designated mediator: to be completed (name, postal address and website).

If no amicable solution is found, the dispute will be brought before the competent courts under the conditions provided by law.

14. Contact

For any question about the Terms or the services: contact@romkade.com. Emails sent by the services (sign-in codes, notifications) come from the address noreply@romkade.com, which does not receive replies.
