Supported consoles

ROMKADE Manager works with consoles that run Linux with an SSH server, and with Android consoles (Retroid, AYN…) fitted with the Termux app. What matters is the firmware (the console's system), not the model: each firmware stores games and saves in its own place and launches games its own way. ROMKADE Manager has a profile per firmware and detects it automatically.

Profiles

Look for your console in the first column first, then the firmware it runs: one console can run several firmwares, and the firmware decides what ROMKADE Manager can do.

Consoles Firmware ROMs folder Launch / quit remotely Status
RG35XX Pro / Plus / H / SP / 2024, RG28XX, RG34XX, RG40XX, RG CubeXX Anbernic + Stock OS Mod /mnt/mmc/Roms Yes, including resuming from a save Tested

Other console running Linux Other (Linux + SSH) To set Quit (RetroArch) Not tested
  • Tested: tried on a real console.
  • Experimental: written from the firmware's documentation, not yet tried on a real console. Some features may not work.
  • Not tested: no dedicated profile; only generic features (SSH, RetroArch) may work.

What works everywhere

As soon as SSH answers, on every profile: the library and sync, adding games, the saves list and copies to the computer, the connection test. Features that drive a running game (save now, quit, on-screen messages) go through RetroArch's network commands.

What depends on the firmware

Settings → System lists, for the detected profile: launch remotely, resume from a save state, quit, save now, play time of games started on the console, Bluetooth, game sound to a Bluetooth speaker, controller per player, volume while playing. The interface hides what the profile does not support.

Notes by firmware

Anbernic + Stock OS Mod
The reference profile. Launching needs the Stock OS Mod (/mnt/mod/ctrl/RA_launch.sh). Without the mod, the console can still be managed but games cannot be launched remotely.
Onion OS
Onion cuts SSH when a game starts, unless Keep services alive is on (Tweaks > Network). ROMKADE Manager turns it on when launching a game, the only change it makes to the card, so the console stays reachable during the game.
Android (Retroid, AYN…)

Android has no SSH server: the free Termux app provides one. On the console, once:

  1. Install Termux from F-Droid or GitHub (not the outdated Play Store version) and RetroArch, then download the cores for your consoles (RetroArch → Online Updater → Core Downloader).
  2. In Termux, type termux-setup-storage, then pkg install openssh, then passwd (choose a password), then sshd.
  3. Android settings → Apps → Termux: allow "Display over other apps". Without it, Android blocks games launched from the computer.
  4. In ROMKADE Manager: the console's IP address, port 8022, any user name and the password chosen in Termux.

Games open in RetroArch, with one core per console. Store games in ROMs at the root of internal storage, one folder per console (snes, megadrive, gba…).

Quitting a game from the computer does not work

ROMKADE Manager launches the game, but you quit it on the console, from RetroArch's menu.

Still to check on a real console (tried so far on an Android 14 emulator): adding games to the microSD card, which some Android versions refuse (store games in internal storage then), and Termux being put to sleep by the battery saver (turn off battery optimisation for Termux and type termux-wake-lock).

RetroArch for Android cannot be controlled remotely. From the computer, there is no running game shown, and no "Save now", resuming from a save state, volume, Bluetooth, per-player controller or clock setting.

Folder names
Each firmware names console folders its own way ("snes", "SFC", "Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SFC)", free names on muOS). ROMKADE Manager maps them to a common code for genres, box art and artwork. Media folders stored next to the ROMs (images, videos, manuals…) are ignored.

Your console is not listed?

Choose Other (Linux + SSH) in Settings → System and enter the ROMs folder by hand. If it works, or does not, your feedback helps add a profile: see About.
