Adding games¶
The Add games page copies games from your computer to the console over Wi-Fi. Each file is verified before it appears on the card, and nothing is replaced without your consent.
Steps¶
- Drop files on the page, or click Choose files. ROMs, disc images and archives are accepted.
- The files are first prepared on the computer: copied to a staging folder, and their SHA-256 checksum computed.
- For each file, ROMKADE Manager suggests the target console from its format. Change it if needed. It also
flags:
- a name the card would reject;
- an unusual format for that console;
- a file already on the card (even with different upper and lower case), with its size;
- a title already present;
- not enough space: a safety margin of 256 MB is always kept.
- For a file already on the card, choose Don't copy, Keep both, or Replace (the old one is backed up).
- Click Copy to console.
Each file is written under a hidden temporary name, verified on the console (checksum, or size when the console cannot compute it), then renamed. The catalog of the consoles concerned is reread right after.
Safety¶
- An existing file is never replaced without confirmation. A replaced file is moved to the hidden folder
.agm-backups/<console>/in the ROMs folder, on the same card. You can recover it from there, or delete the folder when you no longer need it. - If you cancel or the connection drops, the temporary file is deleted: nothing half-copied appears on the card. A failed or cancelled transfer can be retried as long as the file is in the staging folder.
- Copies only go into existing console folders, never into apps, ports, system files or symbolic links.
Large disc images
Wi-Fi speed sets the pace: a 600 MB CD image takes a few minutes. You can keep using the app meanwhile; the dashboard shows the games being added.
